Ten amino acids are degraded to acetyl-coA, five of them by pyruvate (these five are both ketogenic ang glucogenic). The other five are converted to acetyl-CoA or acetoacetyl-CoA (that can be cleaved into to acetyl-CoA).

Tryptophan shares both pathways.
